Jo McAthey

Jo spent nearly nine years in a relationship in which she suffered emotional and physical violence. Jo takes part in training delivery to talk about her abusive relationship and offer insights into her experiences which has proved invaluable for agencies and individuals attending training events.

Jo is not only able to talk about the relationship and its impact on her and her family but also to describe the response she received from agencies when she did contact them.

Growing up Jo didn’t have any big career plans or real goals in her life but now finds herself with both a cause and a career. Jo has progressed from volunteer at a refuge to project worker, where through empowerment and support other women are helped to leave abusive relationships.

Jo is passionate about raising awareness of domestic abuse and hopes that by offering her story she will inspire others to help also.
